We had a very productive meeting tonight.
First, Delsheree Gladden read from two of her works and answered questions about her books and her writing life. Her reading was well received. Delsheree also brought two of her paintings that she has used for book covers, some bookmarks, and some business cards to show items she uses for publicity. She also told the group that the local Staples office supply store will create stand alone banners that authors can use for presentations, readings, and other talks.
Second, we discussed our upcoming networking event, the Writers Meet & Greet (we should discuss a better name). We decided on at least three possible venues to investigate. We also decided to make the event a mixture of book readings, book signings, and anything else writing-related. We will look at inviting local celebrities and writers and writers organizations from around the Four Corners area. We would like to make this as big an event as possible. We will probably have the event somewhere between mid to late June. We will be distributing press releases for our meetings and events and will investigate arranging for the authors interested to be interviewed on radio.
Our next meeting will be on May 11 (the second Thursday). The reader for the evening has yet to be determined. The topics will undoubtedly be a continuation of tonight’s topics.
